Narrative Writing

This is what we have been doing in class,We watched a video called oktapodi but we had rewrite the ending we want to happen.
Oktapodi (Alternative Ending)
As the two octopus were jumping through the pools of the street with the man trying to get to them, there was a big octopus driving an aston martin. He hit the the three-wheeler truck. It seemed as the big octopus missed, but the truck toppled over and a flock of seagulls picked them all up. The seagulls sent them to the lair or nest and started a cauldron - adding food into it.The octopuses couldn't believe their big eyes they watched the gulls. Then the big octopus started to wiggle his tentacles through the lock and he broke free. Then there was an explosion and the big octopus splattered into ink. The others tried to wiggle out too, but they escaped. Scary sharks were in the water circling...

Maths, Reading & Visualisation

In reading we have been working on our comprehension strategies.Last week we focused on visualisation - they way we can create mental images when we read to deepen our understanding of the text.We read a short passage that explained how to measure a very tall object without having to climb it and we visualised how we would do this.

Yesterday we went out and put this knowledge into practice. In the passage it told us to simple grab a pencil and measuring tape. First put the pencil in line with the base top to bottom of the what you want to measure and then you turn the pencil vertically, then you tell your buddy to move to end the pencil. After you have finished estimating where to stand you need to grab measure tape and measure the length of how far your buddy is and then try and get the measure tape to the top of the thing you measuring. Test the end results and compare how far you got see if you can beat us!

Economics

Economics is about how we use our money and trade resources to build a sustainable system and also how use our resources in a great manner. Basically humans have unlimited wants and we have limited resources.  Economics is about satisfying the people of their wants and needs and making decisions about what to produce with limited resources.

ALIM: Maths Reflection

This year the school has made a group to improve student learning in maths called ALIM. I was lucky to be able to get into this group. There are six people in the group including me and we had 10 weeks everyday after maths going to ALIM. Mrs Sturch helped me to understand maths problems. We are finished ALIM now so we had to have another a gloss test. On our last day we had a pizza and chip platter from the teacher Mrs Sturch to say thank you for everything we have achieved.

Here is a wall of words from topic we have had been doing in ALIM.

Pressures On The Earth

Yesterday my class had a quiz on our inquiry topic sustainability, unlucky for me I wasn't there but here a quick recap on what we did.We had to have a balloon and we had been asked a question and if when didn't have a sustainable question we had to blow air to show that we were pressuring the earth by blowing into the balloon. If you look at Harry's balloon it had popped because of his answers he destroyed the earth!! Heres the pic collage and it shows the after for my table group.

'The Giver' - Reflection

How does the community use laws, and how does it use tradition,  to control its citizens?

The so called council made the community up in the clouds so if someone would be able jumped of they would survive because there is ground just below the clouds. No one knew about so they people who made the rules so they listened to them. They tried to hide all violence and warfare and people did not know what death was because they called it release; but to them they thought they were leaving the community. They made the rules pretty simple so people would want to change the rules they set and people get to scared about breaking they rules because that the council is watching them everyday. It used the word tradition for things like  everyday jobs and ceremony  like ceremony of the twelve.
The Giver is a book that we have been reading in class. We also went to the movies to see the differences and changes to the story.

Persuasive Writing

Why should kids go home from school at 3:00 pm instead of 5:00 pm

STUDENTS should always be coming from school at 3:00 o’clock because it is hard to Wake up in the morning is a hassle I know, but it’s even harder to get up when school ends at 5:00.I think that people should not be going to school at 5:00 because do we really need to change our school time so people would be tired everyday from coming to and from s school and not enjoy the day?!

At five o’clock it is always someones time to go home when they're out in about, it is dangerous to go out at five o'clock.Parents CAN NOT FEEL like their good parents when they have to work day and night thinking their is an option that when their sons or daughters are walking out or biking at five they could have been found with some creep that will hurt them or they get hit by a car and be seriously injured. Also at five o’clock it gets dark and rush hour normally starts,it is harder for parents to get to their kids when the traffic is in the way making so that is more dangerous because there is a lot of cars are coming in.

Students normally have sports on the end and middle of the week and when you change the time people would think HOW COULD YOU DO THAT and the fact that students would not be able to go to their sports training it would be just a tragedy!. PEOPLE NEED SPORT like rugby or soccer because it’s in our nature but when we have not got time for training when it is at five o’clock,WE WOULDN'T GET ANY BETTER at our sports.People would not be active at the school if we would not be playing sport or other commitments and we would start lose some academic value to our school in the sports area.

Parents tend to get worried when their sons or daughters don't come home at 6:00 because is normally time for dinner for some people at five o’clock. Parents can get worried because if their sons or daughters don't have their homework done at 4:00 which means that complaints will come in for no much homework in the time space needed in school time and at home and around their environment.Parents normally give chores to some of their children so that parents don’t get tired when they have to DO EVERYTHING themselves and it doesn't help when their son or daughter's are not home to help them and then they get even more mad!

This is why having school to end at five is a bad idea if you ask everyone else and they will tell it’s a bad idea because for one it is not safe when out and about. For two and three it reduces time for sport and other subjects and parents are going to get worried and tired of there kids not getting enough for things round the house.so think about it so DO WHAT IS RIGHT!

Explanation Writing: The Skeletal System

How the Skeletal System Works

Introduction
Did you know that if you didn’t have bones you wouldn’t be able to walk? You would just be a collection of cells, skin and organs on the ground! The skeletal system is made up of lots bones.

What are your bones made of?
Bone have several parts to them.  In the middle of your bones is bone marrow. Bone marrow makes blood cells. Then there is a spongy layer of bone called cancellous. Covering the cancellous is compact, hard bone. This is what makes your bone strong and also it helps to repair the bone when it gets broken. Your bones are covered by a layer of periosteum. It is important to boost your calcium to keep them strong.
How your bones grow smaller and bigger?
Our bones grow using a layer cells that are shaped like plates.  They are at the ends of our bones. They are called growth plates because when we get to adulthood we lose the growth plates when they close up. That is why you don't see adults growing any bigger. As we get old though we tend to grow smaller because when you're old the gravity takes hold and the disks or cushions between the bones in the spine get compressed over time to make you smaller.
How do our bones move?
The bone moves with muscles and joints. We use the muscles that are attached to the bone to make it move. The muscles act as a lever which moves various parts of the body. You also need joints to provide flexible connection between the bones.

Conclusion
We have 206-300 bones in our skeletal system (depending on how old you are).  Our skeletal system is important for protecting our organs and helping us to move.

I have done standard form for the first time for subtraction ,addition and using decimals.

What’s next?

Something I am wondering about:
What are some of the subjects we would do everyday?
Something I’d like you to know I struggle with:
Sometimes I struggle with reading and writing but I don’t normally.

Whakapapa Homework

We made a family tree about our family and had to interview them. When we were done we had to compare their answers. The people I interviewed were Trevor and my dad Sam.

My dad had a lot more better technology like games consoles,a sega mega drive and a commodore 64 for computer, but Trevor had lot more technology in and older form.

They both loved doing sport after school ,but my dad liked collecting rugby league cards.

When Trevor was little he had to go to school 9:00am, my dad had a difference he had to be half an hour early (8:30) than Trevor.

I found out they both do the regular stuff we do now days. They had a lot of tech but trevor had told me that he was using pencil ink in a little cartridge and to use it they had the old pots of ink.
